About every three months or so I think I should write a computer game. I am hugely fond of Sid Meyer's Civilization, and the whole resource management / empire building genre of games.
I have a partner for this one, Greg. He'll be doing the art and reminding me to keep it simple.
What I have so far is a piece of Actionscript3 code that draws hexagons. The code runs in Flash, but that is obvious to most anyone reading this I expect.
This will be a science fiction game, played predominantly in space. For those who remember old BBS games, I'm thinking some elements of TradeWars might be appropriate.
I also have the old Steve Jackson sci-fi boardgames from the 80s including Star Trader, the Task Force Games Star Fleet Battles base game, and the StarFire trilogy also published by Task Force Games from the late 70s and early 80s. I love all these games, and credit them for my personal wish to write a sci-fi game.
So, to summarize my goal: develop a space game, that has empire building, resource management, and hexes.
